Job offer : Engineer in movement analysis and innovation F/M

CHRU (University Hospital) Brest, France.

Type of contract : Postdoctoral researcher, 18 months (with a possibility of 18 months extension)

La Fondation ILDYS is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with an engineering background to work with the Research and Innovation team “BEaCHILD”.


BEaCHILD is a scientific team gathering several institutions in Brest : IMT Atlantique, CHRU Brest, Fondation Ildys, Université Bretagne Occidentale. BEaCHILD is part of the Laboratory of Medical Information Processing (Latim, INSERM)

BEaCHILD (BrEizh Center for technological innovation And research for CHILDren with Disabilities) aims at developing research and technological innovation at the international scale for disabled children and their families. Alongside biomedical imaging in the field of motor therapies, BEaCHILD’s activities focus on movement analysis to understand motor function’s development (gait, prehension…). Innovation for disabled children is a newly arisen topic that BEaCHILD would like to develop and extend.
The first project emerged in 2019 and consisted in surveying disabled children’s needs in terms of technical solutions to facilitate their everyday life’s participation. Structuration and enrichment of innovation projects led by the BEaCHILD in collaboration with research teams worldwide is an ambition of the research group.

The postdoctoral researcher will have 2 missions spread over equal times :

  • Rigorous and perseverant, she/he supports and develops the team’s research activities linked to movement analysis, with the supervisor of the movement laboratory at the CHRU Brest.
  • Diplomatic and entrepreneur, she/he helps to develop and structure innovation activities. She/He coordinates the survey outcomes and sets up processes in order to give rise to technical solutions.

The postdoctoral researcher will be under the responsibility of the scientific director of the BEaCHILD.
She/He will be working with a team (15 people) composed of researchers, PhDs, engineers, medical doctors and rehabilitation specialists at the Laboratory of Medical Information Processing, (LaTIM, INSERM)


PhD degree in movement analysis / Biomechanics. High interest in innovation. With a strong attraction for entrepreneurship and teamwork, the postdoctoral fellow will feel at ease to get in touch with external partners.


  • Sensitivity for the medical and children’s disability fields
  • Skills and expertise in biomechanics (movement analysis, kinematic, kinetic, electromyography)
  • Excellent development skills (Python & Matlab)
  • AI and Deep Learning knowledges
  • Statistics skills
  • Communication skills
  • Experience in strategy and/or project management
  • Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken)
